Roderick Heather MBE

Chair of Trustees

Married and resident in Boughton, Chester.  Rod has had an extensive career in industry, both in the UK and overseas, as well as working for the UK Foreign Office and Environment Agency.  He currently runs his own business in Chester and sits on the boards of two property management companies.  In his spare time, he enjoys tennis and writing and has published six non-fiction books.

 

Phil Tasker

Vice Chair

A Hoole resident for 40 years, Phil, a recently retired Commercial Insurance Broker and committed Hooligan feels that the Community Centre is the beating heart of Hoole and is loved by many.  When not at the Centre, Phil can be found at Oxfam volunteering, at Record Fairs, singing with the Operatic Society, on the Chester and North Wales Insurance Institute Council or walking the local Golf Courses.

 

Alex Black

Secretary

Alex is a retired police officer.  Between 2001 and 2019 he was a member of, firstly Chester City Council and secondly Cheshire West and Chester Council, representing Hoole, Chester.  During this time he was Sheriff of Chester (2015 – 2016) and Lord Mayor of Chester (2018 – 2019) Now fully retired.  He is an active member of Chester Labour Party and he worships at All Saints Church, Hoole, Chester.  He has been married to Janet since 1962.  Alex and Janet are keen grandparents to twin grandsons born 2006.

 

Noel Frith

Treasurer

Now retired. Hoole resident for 40 years.  A Legal Exec. for 27 years (conveyancing and Property Law, Wills Trust and Probate) and then professional photographer for several local and national newspapers.  Membership Secretary and Chairman for several photographic Societies and former piano teacher.

 

Mike Butler

Mike is married with two grown up children and has lived in Hoole all his life.  Growing up opposite the centre in a house on Westminster Road he has spent many an hour ‘mucking about’ around the centre.  Mike has worked for Cheshire Police for almost 17 years and is a keen, but slow runner when time allows.

 

Roger Davey

Trustee

Roger is a retired research chemist and has lived in Hoole since 2007.  He worked previously for ICI, AstraZeneca and most recently for the University of Manchester from where he retired in 2021.  He was previously a volunteer cook in Hobson’s cafe at the Centre and currently volunteers for Vison support and is chair of Friends of Alexandra Park in Hoole.  His other interests include gardening, walking, reading, playing guitar and singing.

 

Pat Higgins

Trustee

Pat has been a resident in Hoole for many years and began as a volunteer to get involved in the community.  Prior to retiring from the NHS in 2011, Pat held several senior posts including Cancer Network Director for Merseyside and Cheshire and many other senior positions within the Northwest and at national level.  Following retirement, Pat was a Non-Executive Director of a social enterprise company providing GP out of hours services and became Chair until September 2018 and, until recently was a Public Governor at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.  Now fully retired, she helps look after her 2 grandchildren who also live in Hoole and keep her busy in her spare time.

 

Anna Lewis

Anna has lived in Hoole all her life and is a local business owner.  She has been involved with the community centre for many years.

 

Jim Riddell

Trustee

Jim [or Archibald, as his parents christened him] is married and has lived in Chester since 1979. He retired in 2014 after 40 years of service in Inland Revenue/HM Customs and Excise, where his work was mainly in Compliance and his last role was in Counter Avoidance.  Jim has been involved for over 10 years in HCDT as a director/trustee, both with decision making and more hands-on matters.  In earlier times, he was the initiator of and primarily concerned in the setting up of the Computer Buddy scheme.  His other main interest is genealogy/family history, and he is researching writing his second book on a late medieval branch of his Scottish family.  His other interests are family, gardening, walking, and reading.
